The Orlando Police Department arrested Bill Kapri, known professionally as Kodak Black, on Wednesday and booked him into the Orange County Jail on a felony count of trafficking in MDMA, the synthetic drug commonly called ecstasy or molly. He entered a written not guilty plea on Thursday and requested a jury trial, while waiving his right to appear at future arraignment hearings. A judge set his bond at $75,000.

The charge originated from a police encounter in November 2025, when officers responded to reports of gunshots in an Orlando neighborhood. Officers found a group gathered around parked luxury sport utility vehicles, including Kapri, according to a police report. An officer noticed a white substance on a $100 bill inside a Lamborghini SUV that smelled of cannabis, providing probable cause to search the vehicle.

Inside, officers discovered a pink bag containing a plastic bag of MDMA, $37,000 in cash, and numerous documents bearing Kapri’s name. Investigators said the pink bag matched one seen in a photo Kapri had posted to his Instagram account, and it contained a distinct lighter also visible in the image. Everyone at the scene denied ownership of the bag, but Kapri claimed the money belonged to his business and asked for its return, the report states.

Attorneys Ambrosia Healy and Kevin Young, who represent Kapri at Universal Music Group, did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Kapri has faced repeated legal issues in recent years. In 2023, police in Plantation, Florida, arrested him after finding him asleep at the wheel with white powder around his mouth. Although the substance initially tested positive for cocaine, a lab test later identified it as oxycodone, for which Kapri obtained a prescription. The arrest violated his probation in an unrelated case, resulting in a two-month jail stay in Miami.

In 2022, he was arrested on charges of trafficking oxycodone and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription. He was released on bond under condition of regular drug testing, but in 2023 a missed test and a subsequent positive test for fentanyl led a court to order him into a 30-day drug rehabilitation program, according to court records.

Earlier, in January 2021, then-President Donald Trump commuted a three-year federal prison sentence Kapri was serving for falsifying documents used to buy weapons. He had served roughly half of the term.

As Kodak Black, Kapri has sold more than 30 million singles, with hits including “Super Gremlin,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.
