Professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan died of natural causes last year, the Clearwater Police Department said Friday in a report that formally closes the investigation into his death.
The department released a 72-page report summarizing an exhaustive review of statements, medical records, surveillance footage and a visual inspection of Hogan’s body. Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, died July 24, 2025, at age 71.
“There has been no evidence to indicate the death of Terry Bollea was anything other than natural,” the report said. “Through the course of the investigation, there has been no evidence to indicate any criminal wrongdoing related to his death. This case will be closed, and will be considered solved, non-criminal.”
According to the report, Hogan’s wife, Sky Daily Hogan, as well as a home health aide and an occupational therapist, were all with Hogan at his home when he stopped breathing. Daily Hogan called 911, and then the three performed CPR on Hogan until firefighters and paramedics arrived.
The investigation included interviews with family members and medical professionals, a review of Hogan’s medical history and an examination of the scene. The report did not specify a particular cause of death beyond “natural causes.” Hogan had been treated for kidney disease and other health issues in the years before his death, according to public records and prior reporting.
Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s as a larger-than-life character in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), becoming one of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling. He headlined multiple WrestleMania events and later appeared in films and television shows. His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow wrestlers, athletes and fans.
