Firefighters in central Kentucky rescued a cow that was spotted stranded in a Boyle County lake on Sunday morning, the Boyle County Fire Department said.

The department’s Water Rescue Team and Large Animal Rescue Team were dispatched to a lake near Wells Landing Road, outside Danville, after receiving a report of a cow in the water. Crews launched rescue boats and were able to secure the animal to one of the vessels to guide it to shore, according to the department.

“Once on land, firefighters faced additional challenges due to the rocky terrain and steep embankment,” the department said on social media. “Crews worked together to safely move the animal through the rocky area and up the hillside to a secure location.”

The department said it was not clear how long the cow had spent in the water, but it appeared to be uninjured and is expected to recover fully from its ordeal.
