The Atlanta Hawks agreed to a multiyear contract extension with head coach Quin Snyder, the team announced Monday, locking in the coach who led a gradual turnaround that produced the franchise’s best record in a decade.
“I am grateful to the Ressler family and humbled to continue leading this team,” Snyder said in a team news release. “I love this group of players, love coaching this team and am fortunate to have a tremendous coaching staff. Atlanta has truly been home for my family, and I am excited to continue this journey.”
Snyder, 59, took over as Hawks coach during the 2022-23 season, going 10-11 in a part-year stint. He posted a 36-46 record in his first full season, 40-42 the following year, and 46-36 in 2025-26. Atlanta’s 46 wins were its most since the 2015-16 season.
The Hawks’ 20-6 record after the All-Star break this past season was the best in the Eastern Conference and third-best in the NBA behind only the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, per team statistics.
Atlanta clinched a postseason berth for the second time in Snyder’s tenure but fell to the eventual Eastern Conference champion New York Knicks in the first round.
Hawks president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh credited Snyder with building a culture of player development amid an evolving roster.
“Quin has been a phenomenal leader for our team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and sustained growth as we build toward high-level success,” Saleh said in the team’s announcement. “Over the past three seasons and amid an evolving roster, we’ve seen clear, measurable progress, which is a testament to the culture he’s established and the leadership he brings every day.”
The Hawks ranked sixth in points per game and 18th in points allowed during the 2025-26 regular season. The franchise has not reached the NBA Finals since 1960-61, when the team was based in St. Louis.
