A U.S. Army soldier and a British servicemember died Sunday during separate military training accidents in northern Iraq, both militaries announced Monday.

The U.S. Army Central and Third Army said in a statement Monday that an American soldier died in a training accident at Erbil Air Base on Sunday. Britain’s Ministry of Defence separately announced that one of its service members died Sunday in a training accident in northern Iraq. Neither military provided further details about the circumstances.

The U.S. Army said it would withhold the soldier’s name until 24 hours after next-of-kin notifications. The British Ministry of Defence said the service member’s family has been notified and has “requested a period of grace before further details are released.”

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends at this sad time,” the British ministry said.

The deaths occurred about a month after two U.S. soldiers died in Morocco after falling from a cliff into the ocean during Exercise African Lion. Their bodies were discovered and recovered over several weeks in May.
