Thompson Fire Engine Co. described the Sunday night call on social media as a “highly unusual and emotionally charged rescue involving a young goat, a utility trailer, and what appeared to be a rapidly escalating horn-growth situation.”
The goat’s caretakers had found the animal with its head stuck in the steel framework of the trailer. The fire company said firefighters used specialized tools to remove a section of steel angle angle and free the goat.
“Once freed, the patient immediately resumed normal goat activities and reportedly accepted hugs and affection from rescuers, caretakers, and anyone else willing to provide attention,” the fire company wrote. “No injuries were reported to the goat, firefighters or public pride.”
The fire company noted with humor that witnesses had reported the goat’s horns appeared to have grown considerably during the ordeal, “making escape increasingly difficult and raising questions that local biologists have yet to answer.”
