WASHINGTON — Voting concludes Tuesday as Georgia Republicans choose their nominees in a crowded primary for governor and a competitive U.S. Senate race that could help determine control of the closely divided chamber.
Eight Republicans are vying for the nomination to succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Brian Kemp, including state Attorney General Chris Carr, health care executive Rick Jackson, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
The primaries also include races for U.S. House, the state Legislature, and statewide offices such as lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and attorney general. Two competitive nonpartisan contests for the state Supreme Court are also on the ballot.
The Senate primary will select a challenger to face the Democratic incumbent in November. Both parties’ nominees in that race will be set after Tuesday’s voting, and the general election outcome could determine which party holds the majority in the Senate.
Polls close at 7 p.m. Eastern time, with results expected later Tuesday night.
