Republicans currently control the U.S. House with a narrow majority, and Pennsylvania’s four targeted seats are among the most competitive in the nation. Democratic voters will go to the polls Tuesday to pick nominees who will challenge the incumbents, all of whom are unopposed for their party’s nomination.
The races unfold in districts with sharply different partisan histories. Vice President Harris narrowly won the suburban Philadelphia-based 1st District in the 2024 presidential election, while President Trump carried the 7th, 8th, and 10th districts, which stretch across more rural and exurban parts of the state, by wider margins. The Democratic primary fields in each seat will test which candidates can consolidate support ahead of what party leaders describe as pivotal November contests.
