Three people died and several others sustained serious injuries late Saturday night when a vehicle crashed into a parked car and a group of pedestrians in Oakland, California, police said. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., prompting an immediate emergency response along 85th Avenue and International Boulevard.

Oakland police said the vehicle was traveling north on 85th Avenue at a high rate of speed. The car struck a parked vehicle before the driver turned left onto International Boulevard, colliding with multiple pedestrians in the process. Authorities established a perimeter to secure the scene and direct traffic away from the collision zone.

Three victims were pronounced dead at the site. First responders transported three additional pedestrians to local hospitals for emergency care. Police have not publicly identified the deceased or the hospitalized pedestrians pending family notifications and formal identification procedures.

The driver was also transported to a hospital for medical evaluation before being taken into custody, officials said. Law enforcement confirmed the driver is under 18 but did not release a name or other identifying details in compliance with juvenile privacy protocols. The vehicle’s registered owner has not yet been listed in police statements.

Hospital staff described the three surviving pedestrians’ conditions as ranging from critical to stable. The driver remains hospitalized under police supervision while forensic teams document the crash site and begin their review.

Police said it appears the vehicle’s excessive speed was a primary factor in the collision. Investigators emphasized that toxicology screenings and data extraction from the vehicle will be necessary to establish a complete timeline. Authorities stated they do not currently know whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the driver’s loss of control, and the investigation remains ongoing.
