Jensen Huang’s Beijing stop drew attention from the public and local media as the Nvidia CEO ate at No. 69 Fangzhuanchang Noodles. The AP reported that Huang ordered “zhajiangmian,” describing it as noodles covered in thick soybean-paste sauce mixed with vegetables and meat, and that he told onlookers, “It’s so good,” while standing in front of the restaurant entrance and digging into the bowl.

The visit turned into a public moment: onlookers crowded around to film him and take photos. AP said Huang’s reaction to the next item proved even more shareable, as the CEO was also given “douzhi’er,” a fermented soybean drink that is slightly sour and gray-green. Videos of Huang’s wince after tasting the drink spread on Weibo on Friday afternoon, AP reported.

AP said the fermented soybean drink is a Beijing classic but is considered an acquired taste. After tasting it, Huang reportedly moved quickly to recover, purchasing a sweet drink from the Chinese beverage chain Mixue Bingcheng, according to AP.

The food tour unfolded in Nanluoguxiang, a neighborhood in Beijing’s eastern district known for its distinctive traditional low-rise homes called hutongs. AP said the area is a mix of shops and restaurants as well as homes for city residents, and that while many of the houses had been demolished across the years, Beijing preserved a small section.

The episode underscored how quickly high-profile visitors can turn everyday local eating into viral content, with on-the-spot reactions capturing attention far beyond the restaurant setting.
