Torrential rains late on Tuesday caused rivers in Havza district in Samsun province, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, to overflow and send floodwaters rushing down streets, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency. The flooding inundated homes and businesses and swept vehicles and debris through affected areas.

Anadolu Agency said the basement and ground floors of several properties were submerged. Video footage described by Anadolu Agency showed a driver standing on top of a truck while waiting to be rescued.

Anadolu Agency also reported that at least 12 people were hospitalized with minor injuries after the flooding. The agency said none of the injured were in serious condition.

Anadolu Agency said some of those hurt made their way to hospitals on their own, while others were assisted by medical teams. Firefighters, police and disaster teams were deployed to rescue stranded residents and to clear debris.
