Joni Lamb, who helped build the Daystar Television Network and later served as its president, died Thursday at age 65, the Christian broadcaster said. In a statement, the network said Lamb had been dealing with serious health issues before a back injury caused her health to deteriorate. It did not provide a cause of death.

Lamb’s death comes as Daystar continues broadcasting programs rooted in Pentecostalism and in what the network describes as modern-day miracles. The network said its ministry will continue and that Lamb made sure a leadership team was in place, even as it announced her passing. “Joni’s love for the Lord and for the people we serve shaped this ministry from the beginning,” the Daystar board of directors said in the statement.

Daystar said Lamb had served in both leadership and on-air roles over the years. Beyond being the network’s president and working behind the scenes, she appeared on programs including “Joni Table Talk,” and the network said she also hosted her signature daily women’s show starting in 1998.

According to the network, Lamb and her late husband, Marcus Lamb, began broadcasting in the Dallas area with a single station in 1993. Five years later, Lamb began hosting the daily women’s program. Marcus Lamb died in 2021.

Based in Bedford, Texas, Daystar grew from that early local launch into what the network described as one of the world’s largest Christian television networks. Daystar said it now broadcasts in more than 200 countries and has aired shows from well-known evangelists including Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes. The network also said its ministry reaches 2.3 billion homes worldwide.

The statement also referenced Lamb’s public role in the couple’s difficult period in 2010, when Marcus Lamb admitted on television to an affair with a woman years earlier. The network said Marcus Lamb also alleged that three people tried to extort money from him to keep quiet.

In the aftermath of those disclosures, the network said Joni Lamb told viewers that when she learned of his infidelity she was devastated, and that she prayed to the Holy Spirit, which she said told her, “He’s worth fighting for.” She and Marcus Lamb said they healed their marriage and had hoped to keep the matter private. “All you can do is tell the truth and take your pain and use it to try to help someone else,” Lamb said, according to the network.

After the death of her first husband at age 64, Lamb later married Doug Weiss, the network said. Together, she and Weiss hosted the show “Ministry Now.”
