Tesla announced two new recalls covering more than 200,000 vehicles after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified defects that could raise the risk of a collision. The largest of the recalls involves loss of the rearview camera image on certain Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 vehicles.

NHTSA said a software problem can render the rearview camera inoperable for a short period, which may obscure the driver’s view and increase crash risk. Tesla’s recall number for that action is SB-26-00-016.

The second recall, numbered SB-26-33-003, targets 173 Cybertrucks from model years 2024 through 2026 equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. The agency warned that rough roads and aggressive cornering can strain the stud hole in the wheel rotor, leading to cracks and, with continued driving, potential separation of the wheel stud from the hub. “Wheel stud separation may affect vehicle controllability, increasing the risk of a collision,” NHTSA said in its report.

Tesla said it will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts on affected Cybertrucks with more durable components at no charge to owners. The company is not aware of any accidents, fatalities, or injuries related to either defect. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
