A shooting at a lakeside party near Arcadia Lake in Edmond left one person dead and 22 others wounded, according to police. Edmond Police said the shooting happened Sunday night at a picnic pavilion near the lake, which is a popular boating, fishing and swimming spot just north of Oklahoma City.

Police said the party was promoted across social media and drew a large crowd of mostly young adults. Edmond Police said the shooting began after a fight erupted at the party, with the gunfire breaking out as officers were responding to a noise complaint about the gathering.

In a post on the social media platform X, police said an 18-year-old woman died from injuries she sustained. Edmond Police later said no arrests had been made and that investigators had information that leads them to believe there is no ongoing danger to the public.

Edmond Police spokesperson Sgt. James Hamm said the shooting began just as officers arrived on scene, and he also said some of those who were shot were not involved in the fight. Hamm said it was possible more people were hit but did not seek treatment, and he said some victims suffered graze wounds and were treated and released.

Hospitals in the Oklahoma City area said Monday that they had treated 18 people from the party, and one healthcare system said the victims ranged in age from 16 to 30. Police did not release details about potential suspects, how many people fired shots, or what types of weapons were used, saying the department wanted to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

Edmond Mayor Mark Nash said the shooting took place at a public park where spaces can be reserved for large gatherings, but no reservation had been made. Jeremiah Braxton, who said he was at the party, said friends were among those shot and that the group was eating and dancing until an argument started among a group of girls over boyfriends.
