Imprisoned Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi hospitalized after health crisis
By Main Street Independent
Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was transferred to a hospital in Zanjan on Friday after twice losing consciousness and suffering a cardiac crisis, her foundation and lawyer reported.
Her family said the transfer came after 140 days of “systematic medical neglect” and may be too late to address her critical needs.
Mohammadi had fainted twice in prison earlier that day; a neurologist ordered the transfer after the second fainting, according to her lawyer Mostafa Nili.
In late March, fellow inmates found Mohammadi unconscious, and a prison doctor told her she likely had a heart attack; she was denied transfer to a hospital or her cardiologist at that time, her lawyers said.
Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while imprisoned, was arrested Dec.
