Amtrak canceled and rerouted multiple train services in Florida on Monday because of a 2,700-acre wildfire burning in the state’s northeast, the railroad said.

The disruptions affected three major routes connecting Florida to the East Coast and Midwest, forcing the railroad to provide alternative bus service for affected passengers.

Auto Train Service Canceled

The Auto Train service, which allows passengers to transport vehicles, was completely canceled for Monday. That route typically connects Sanford, Florida near Orlando with Lorton, Virginia outside Washington.

Other Routes Partially Disrupted

Two other major Amtrak routes in Florida experienced partial disruptions. The Silver Meteor, running between Miami and New York, began and ended in Jacksonville instead of South Florida on Monday. One of its two daily trips was canceled for Tuesday.

The Floridian, which runs from Miami to Chicago via Washington, was rerouted to begin and end in Savannah, Georgia, with one of its two daily trips canceled for Tuesday.

Amtrak offered bus service between Jacksonville and Miami on Monday for passengers on the affected Silver Meteor and Floridian routes.

Wildfire in Northeast Florida

The Florida Forest Service reported the wildfire was burning along the eastern border of Putnam and Clay counties, south of Jacksonville. The fire covered 2,700 acres, or about 1,093 hectares.
