Los Angeles police said a woman was taken into custody after gunshots were fired outside Rihanna’s gated home in the Beverly Hills area, according to authorities and reports Monday. Police said no one was injured and that it was not immediately clear whether the singer was at home at the time of the shooting Sunday afternoon.
Officer Charles Miller said police received a call about shots fired around 1:15 p.m. in the Beverly Hills area. Investigators later recovered a weapon, according to a police statement, and the woman—described as 35 years old—was taken into custody.
Police booked the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder and said she was being held in jail on $10 million bail. Miller did not say whether Rihanna was present at the home when the shooting happened, and the district attorney had not yet announced charges.
Multiple local news outlets reported that the home belongs to Rihanna. Public records cited in the report show the property is owned by a trust run by Evan Jehle, who is described as an advisory board member for Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation, and emails seeking comment were left with the singer’s publicist and manager.
KABC-TV showed video that appeared to depict five bullet holes in the front gate of the home. The station also aired audio from a police dispatcher in which the dispatcher said, “Shooting just occurred. Ten gunshots fired from the vehicle,” adding that the gunfire came from across the street.
Authorities said it was not known whether the woman arrested had any connection to Rihanna. The report also noted that in 2018 a man was accused of breaking into a different Rihanna home in the Hollywood Hills and spending 12 hours there, before pleading no contest in 2019 to stalking and vandalism charges and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, according to the account.
Rihanna is a nine-time Grammy Award winner with 14 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “We Found Love,” “Work,” “Umbrella” and “Disturbia.” The report said she founded the makeup brand Fenty Beauty in 2017, and that she and A$AP Rocky announced the birth of their third child, a girl named Rocki Irish Mayers, in September.
