Elijah Allman, the son of singer and actress Cher, had a Wednesday court hearing canceled after his attorney appeared, according to an Associated Press report. The case followed Allman’s March 1 arrest in New Hampshire, after which he was being held in Rockingham County corrections, according to Superintendent Jonathan Banville.
Banville said Allman remained in custody at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections. The AP report said the hearing was continued to an undetermined date after Allman got an attorney Wednesday morning, and that attorney Sarah Landres did not respond to a request for comment.
Police said Allman broke into a home in Windham, New Hampshire, and reported that he did not have permission to be at the residence and forcibly entered it. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of criminal mischief, one count of burglary, and a count of breach of bail for the March 1 break-in, the AP report said.
The report said it was unclear whether Allman had any connection to the Windham home. Allman, described as 49 and from Malibu, California, was additionally charged in New Hampshire only days earlier, after an incident officials said occurred at St. Paul’s School in Concord.
Officials at St. Paul’s School said that last month Allman identified himself as the parent of a prospective student and then slipped into the dining hall as students were leaving the building. Police said they responded to reports that he was disturbing people in the building, and the AP report said Allman was charged there with four misdemeanors: two counts of simple assault, criminal trespass and criminal threatening.
According to the AP report, Allman also faced a disorderly conduct charge in the school incident, which is a violation under New Hampshire law but not considered a crime in the state. Police said he was released on bail after those charges.
Allman’s arrest on March 1 was described as his second in New Hampshire in a matter of days. The AP report said Allman did not respond to an email seeking comment, and a phone number for him was not working.
The Wednesday hearing cancellation came as a separate legal dispute over Allman’s finances was ongoing in California courts. In December 2023, Cher filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking to become a temporary conservator overseeing her son’s money, saying that his struggles with mental health and addiction had left him unable to manage assets and potentially put his life at risk, the AP report said.
The AP report said the petition stated that Allman is entitled to regular payments from a trust fund, but expressed concern that “given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues,” any funds distributed to Elijah would be spent on drugs and leave him without assets. The report said Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica Uzcategui denied the request, saying she was not convinced the conservatorship was urgently needed.
The AP report said Allman was in the courtroom with his attorneys for the conservatorship-related matter and that his attorneys acknowledged previous struggles while arguing that he was in a good place—attending meetings, getting treatment, and reconciling with his estranged wife.
