The bombing at the Dalí nightclub in Trujillo, in Peru’s northern La Libertad region, left dozens of people injured in the pre-dawn hours Saturday, prompting arrests announced Sunday as hospitals updated the casualty count, local emergency officials and health authorities said.

Authorities said the explosion occurred early Saturday at the nightclub in Trujillo, according to a statement from the local Emergency Operations Center, which described the incident as taking place in the hours before dawn. The nightclub is located in the La Libertad region, an area authorities have characterized in recent reporting as having extortion and illegal mining activity.

On Sunday, La Libertad Regional Health Management said the number of people injured increased from 33 to 44. The health management agency said the injured included three minors aged 16 and 17.

Gerardo Florián, executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, said at least 10 patients were discharged after treatment. Florián also said four other people remained in serious condition, according to the same reporting.

Municipal officials said the club had been shuttered for 30 days because it violated local requirements. The officials said the nightclub had breached an operating hours limit and also violated an ordinance that prohibits minors from entering the establishment.

Police took investigative steps quickly after the blast. The police press office confirmed to the Associated Press that three people had been arrested in connection with the case, and local media aired video showing the suspects handcuffed as they were taken away by police.

The bombing is the latest in a series of explosions that have affected La Libertad in recent years. In 2025, the region recorded 286 explosions, with officials saying 136 occurred in the city of Trujillo, and reporting cited previous blasts in the prosecutor’s office building in Trujillo as well as explosions in August and September that left more than 20 people injured and damaged dozens of homes.
