Gerald Dorgan, who had been in critical condition after a deadly shooting during a youth hockey game in Rhode Island last week, has died from his injuries, Pawtucket police said Wednesday.

Police said the attack also killed Dorgan’s daughter, Rhonda Dorgan, and his grandson, Aidan Dorgan, at the ice rink. Authorities said law enforcement were treating the shooting as an assault aimed at family members.

Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said in a statement that he was heartbroken that another person died because of the shooting. Grebien added, “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic act of violence.”

Authorities identified the shooter as Robert Dorgan, 56, and said he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police also said the man went by other names, including Roberta Esposito and Roberta Dorgano.

Police said Rhonda Dorgan was killed in the shooting and that her mother, Linda Dorgan, and a family friend, Thomas Geruso, were wounded. Officials also said Gerald Dorgan was among those taken from the scene and later treated for injuries.

Law enforcement credited several people who intervened and helped stop the attack quickly as the crowd fled. Authorities said at least three bystanders were able to contain the shooter in the middle of the stands while people ran around them.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to identify victims and describe how the shooting unfolded at the youth hockey event.
