A sanitation worker making his rounds in Huber Heights, Ohio, helped trigger an encounter with police after he opened a trash can and found a man hiding inside, according to the Huber Heights Police Department and a report from the Associated Press. Police later released dash-camera video from the episode, showing the worker backing away and pointing toward the container as officers arrived.

The video shows the worker rolling the bin toward a garbage truck, lifting the lid, and then quickly staggering back before indicating where the man was. Officers then pulled up near the scene, the report said, setting the stage for what became an active pursuit.

Police said the man’s presence in the trash can was tied to an earlier incident that Monday. They said he had fled on foot after a traffic stop and that officers briefly lost sight of him before setting up a perimeter in the area.

As officers responded, the man climbed out of the trash can and ran as an officer chased him, according to the video and the police account described by AP. During the pursuit, the report said the man’s shoes appeared to fly off.

Police said the chase ended with the man taken into custody without injury.
