Patrick Beverley will not face a criminal indictment for an assault case brought in Texas after a grand jury declined to return charges, court records and statements around the case show.

The grand jury’s Monday decision concluded proceedings for one count of assault of a family member, according to the Associated Press report. Beverley had been free on a $40,000 bond following his arrest in November in Fort Bend County, southwest of Houston.

The arrest stemmed from allegations made by Beverley’s sister to investigators, as described in court records. Authorities said the sister accused Beverley of grabbing her by the neck, slamming her against a wall and punching her in the face.

The AP report also said the alleged incident followed the sister’s account that she had left her mother’s home to see her boyfriend. Shortly after his arrest, Beverley posted an unsigned statement on X describing a claim that he had unexpectedly found his sister, who he described as a minor, alone with an 18-year-old man.

Beverley’s attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, responded after the grand jury decision with a statement in which they said Beverley “would never do anything to harm his sister” and that he was “very grateful” the grand jury recognized that. After the decision, Beverley posted on X that he was “deeply grateful for all thoughts and prayers for the family” and that people “must continue to protect our children, especially our young girls.”

Beverley played 12 seasons in the NBA, beginning his career with the Houston Rockets. He last played for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023-24 season.
