The 2026 British Academy Film Awards ceremony in London on Sunday honored “One Battle After Another” as best film, while director Paul Thomas Anderson won top honors in the directing category for the same production, the Academy announced.

The BAFTAs, held annually in London, represent one of the international film industry’s major award ceremonies. The ceremony recognized a range of films and performances across acting, technical, and specialty categories.

Major Awards

Robert Aramayo won Best Actor for “I Swear,” while Jessie Buckley earned Best Actress for “Hamnet.” Sean Penn took Best Supporting Actor for “One Battle After Another,” and Wunmi Mosaku won Best Supporting Actress for “Sinners.”

Aramayo also received the Rising Star award, which is voted for by the public.

Screenwriting and Direction

Paul Thomas Anderson won Best Director for “One Battle After Another” and Best Adapted Screenplay for the same film. Ryan Coogler received Best Original Screenplay for “Sinners.”

Technical Awards

Michael Bauman won Best Cinematography for “One Battle After Another,” while Andy Jurgensen earned Best Editing for the film.

“Frankenstein” took Best Production Design, Best Costume Design (Kate Hawley), and Best Makeup and Hair. “Sinners” won Best Musical Score.

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” won Best Visual Effects, and “F1” won Best Sound.

Additional Categories

“Hamnet” won Best British Film. “Sentimental Value” won Best Film Not in the English Language. “This is Endometriosis” won Best British Short Film, while “Two Black Boys in Paradise” took Best British Short Animation. “Boong” won Best Children’s and Family Film.

The documentary award went to “Mr. Nobody Against Putin.” “Zootopia 2” was named Best Animated Film.

Special Honors

Akinola Davies Jr. and Wale Davies received the Outstanding British Debut award for writing and directing “My Father’s Shadow.” Clare Binns, Creative Director of PictureHouse Cinemas, won the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.

Donna Langley, chair of NBCUniversal Entertainment, received the BAFTA Fellowship.

Lauren Evans won Best Casting for “I Swear.”
