LaBeouf’s arrest followed an incident police said began inside a business in New Orleans’ French Quarter during Mardi Gras early Tuesday, when officers were called at about 12:45 a.m. New Orleans police said the actor was “causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive” inside before officers arrived. After an employee attempted to remove him, police said LaBeouf allegedly struck a man “multiple times with closed fists” once he was outside.

Police said witnesses told them LaBeouf left the area and later returned, continuing to act aggressively. The department said “multiple individuals attempted to restrain him, releasing him in hopes he would leave,” and described an employee and other witnesses trying to keep him from continuing. The man who was first allegedly hit by LaBeouf told police the actor attacked him again, police said, and another man told officers LaBeouf also allegedly punched him in the nose.

New Orleans police said LaBeouf was taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. After he was released, police said he was arrested and taken into custody. Police also said the case resulted in charges against him, including two counts of simple battery.

Court and jail records did not list an attorney who could speak on LaBeouf’s behalf, and emails to his publicists were not immediately returned, according to the report. The allegations and charges were described by police as involving two victims in the early-morning hours of Mardi Gras.

LaBeouf has had several other run-ins with law earlier in his career, according to the report. In 2017, he was arrested in New York on suspicion of assault after an incident that took place during a livestream, the report said. Later that summer, he was arrested in Georgia for public drunkenness and accused of disorderly conduct and obstruction while he was on location filming “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” the report said, and he was sentenced to probation.

In 2020, the report said LaBeouf was charged with misdemeanor battery and petty theft in Los Angeles. That year, it said, the English singer and actor FKA Twigs—whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett—filed a lawsuit alleging LaBeouf was physically and emotionally abusive during their relationship; the report said the parties settled in July.

The report said Barnett alleged LaBeouf put her in a constant state of fear and humiliation, slammed her into a car, tried to strangle her and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease. LaBeouf apologized in a statement after the lawsuit was filed, and the report said he denied the accusations in a 2021 filing, arguing that any injuries done or damages incurred by Barnett were not his doing.

LaBeouf, 39, first gained acclaim as a child for his role on the Disney Channel series “Even Stevens,” and continued working into adulthood, the report said. He is perhaps best known for his roles in 2007’s “Transformers” and in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.” The report also said LaBeouf shares a daughter, born in 2022, with actor Mia Goth.
