Robson’s decision to suspend her bid for governor on Thursday immediately reshaped the Republican path to November in Arizona, a battleground state with voters and party leaders already focused on the 2026 midterms. In a statement, housing developer Karrin Taylor Robson said she is stepping back because she does not want what she called a divisive GOP primary that drains resources and turns into intraparty attacks that weaken conservative efforts.

Her withdrawal left two U.S. House members as the remaining candidates in the Republican field seeking the nomination for Arizona governor: Andy Biggs and David Schweikert. The Associated Press reported that Trump endorsed Taylor Robson, and that endorsement also positioned the remaining candidates as Trump-backed options within the party contest. Biggs also has support from Turning Point USA, according to the report.

Taylor Robson said the choice was not easy. She argued that intraparty conflict has stakes for the broader electoral fight ahead of the midterms, and she said she does not want to contribute to fractures inside the GOP. In her remarks, she said a divisive Republican primary “drains resources and turns into months of intraparty attacks,” and she added that Republicans will need to focus on winning in 2026.

Taylor Robson also said she would still help Republicans, despite suspending the campaign. “While I am stepping back from this race, I am not stepping back from the fight for Arizona’s future,” she said. The statement framed her withdrawal as a strategic retreat rather than an end to her involvement in party and state politics.

Biggs responded after Taylor Robson’s announcement, thanking her for a “well-run” campaign. He said in his reaction that her experience as a businesswoman brought “valuable perspective” to the contest, per the Associated Press report. Schweikert also responded, saying Taylor Robson cares deeply about Arizona and the Republican Party.

Taylor Robson previously sought the governor’s job in 2022, when she lost the GOP primary to Kari Lake. Lake went on to lose the general election to Democrat Katie Hobbs. In this newest round of Republican campaigning, former Gov. Doug Ducey, who backed Taylor Robson in 2022, called her a “formidable” candidate and said in a text message that she has the gifts to continue benefiting the state. The Associated Press report also said Taylor Robson’s campaign leaned on Trump’s backing this go-around and highlighted issues including ending “woke indoctrination” in schools and keeping the border secure.
