The Trump administration launched the TrumpRx website on Thursday, pitching it as a new way for patients to access prescription drugs at discounted rates as Americans continue to express concern about health care and household costs. President Donald Trump unveiled the government-hosted site during an event on the White House campus, arguing that the change would deliver savings to families.

At the unveiling, Trump said, “You’re going to save a fortune,” adding that the effort was “also so good for overall health care.” The administration described TrumpRx as a facilitator rather than a sales platform. It does not allow users to purchase medications directly through the site; instead, it points Americans to drugmakers’ direct-to-consumer websites, where they can make purchases.

TrumpRx also provides coupons that consumers can use at pharmacies. The website’s launch included more than 40 medications, among them weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, which have become prominent in U.S. discussions over access and pricing.

The administration said the initiative is part of a broader effort to address high prescription-drug costs. Trump framed the discounts as the result of pressuring pharmaceutical companies on pricing, saying he demanded that the firms charge in the U.S. the same costs they charge in other nations.

The White House also emphasized that the TrumpRx discounts could help reduce prices for specific treatments, although the administration’s claims have met uncertainty about how those changes translate into impacts for individual budgets. TrumpRx lists an “out-of-pocket price” and includes a disclaimer stating that prices “may be even lower” for people with insurance. The site also notes that some consumers might be able to use generics that cost less than brand-name versions.

At the event, Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, characterized the website as transformative and linked the expected lower prices to health outcomes. Oz said that the lower prices for Ozempic and Wegovy would cause the country to collectively lose 100 million pounds this year, and he suggested that lower prices for the fertility drug Gonal-F would trigger pregnancies nationwide.

Oz also said, “We’re going to have a lot of Trump babies with these costs,” according to the account of the remarks at the unveiling. The administration has previously presented TrumpRx as part of a set of pharmaceutical agreements, but the extent of benefits for consumers can depend on factors such as coverage through work-based insurance, the individual market, or government programs like Medicaid and Medicare.

The Trump administration first teased TrumpRx in September, when Trump announced the first of more than 15 deals with pharmaceutical companies aimed at lowering drug prices to match the lowest price offered in other developed nations. In December, Trump said the website would provide “massive discounts to all consumers,” though it remained unclear whether prices available on drugmakers’ websites would routinely be any lower than what many consumers could obtain through their insurance.

The Thursday release came after multiple delays, with the administration not publicly sharing the reasons. In the past, Oz told Trump that the site would share prices with consumers before the end of the year, and an expected launch in late January was also pushed back.

Trump’s efforts to spotlight drug pricing changes have included agreements with major pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Merck. Those deals have included lower prices for Medicaid drugs under “most favored nations” pricing, and the administration said many new drugs tied to the agreements would also be launched at discounted rates for consumer markets through TrumpRx.

The announcement also sits against a wider political backdrop in which affordability has become a vulnerability for Trump and his Republican allies as midterm elections approach. The administration has sought to frame the website’s launch as part of how it is tackling cost pressures affecting staples of middle-class life, including housing, groceries and utilities.
