Patrick “Pat” Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Texas after authorities said he violated his probation tied to a prior driving while intoxicated conviction. The arrest was carried out Tuesday during a meeting with his probation officer, according to authorities who said a warrant for the probation violation had been obtained.

The Associated Press reported that Mahomes Sr., 55, remained in Smith County jail in Tyler on Wednesday. His attorney did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press, the report said.

Authorities said Mahomes Sr. violated the terms of the probation that had been issued after his DWI case. The AP reported that Mahomes Sr. had been sentenced to five years probation following a guilty plea in August 2024 to a DWI charge.

The AP said a probation violation report cited a high alcohol reading on Mahomes Sr.’s ankle monitor on Jan. 1. The report also said Mahomes Sr. had been arrested on the DWI charge in February 2024, a little more than a week before his son led the Chiefs to a second straight Super Bowl championship with a win over San Francisco.

Smith County jail records, according to the AP report, show multiple DWI arrests over the years for the elder Mahomes. The AP also reported that Mahomes Sr. is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for six teams during an 11-year major league career that ended in 2003, citing Baseball Reference.
