An avalanche in Slovakia’s High Tatras mountain range killed two Hungarian climbers, according to the country’s mountain rescue service, which said the incident occurred in the area of Tupa peak. The service said the climbers were male and were 38 and 37 years old.
The rescue service said bad weather prevented the use of a helicopter. It said the two climbers therefore had to reach a valley under Tupa peak on foot, where the avalanche took place.
The mountain rescue service said witnesses located the victims under the avalanche. It added that the two men did not survive.
The incident came as the service reported that, on Friday, there was only a slight danger of avalanches in Slovakia’s highest mountain range.
