Trump fails to elevate Arab American ally due to GOP opposition
By Main Street Independent
Amer Ghalib’s U.S. ambassador nomination stalled after opposition from Senate Republicans, leaving him in Hamtramck, according to an Associated Press report.
Ghalib said the nomination does not matter and that he is “not interested in it anymore.”
Sen. Ted Cruz said Ghalib’s “long-standing views are directly contrary” to President Trump’s positions and said he would not support confirmation, AP reported.
Bahbah said Arab Americans face “widespread disappointment,” citing unfulfilled promises, visa and immigration enforcement worries tied to ICE, and higher grocery bills, the report said.
AP reported that White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Trump continues to deliver on promises to Arab Americans by “cooling inflation,” “securing the border,” and “restoring peace through strength.”
