Authorities in Louisiana said they arrested two teenagers in connection with gunfire during a weekend parade that injured a 6-year-old child and four other people, according to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Sunday that two suspects—ages 19 and 15—were arrested and charged with attempted murder, obstructing justice and reckless discharge of a firearm. The statement also said the teenagers were among three people detained Saturday after authorities found them with guns near the parade.
Investigators said the shootings occurred Saturday during the Mardi Gras in the Country Parade in Clinton, a town about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Baton Rouge, where gunfire prompted people to scramble for cover.
Sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Bill Cox told The Advocate on Saturday that all five victims were expected to survive. The sheriff’s office said Sunday that it was unaware of any changes in the victims’ conditions.
The sheriff’s office said investigators also charged a third person—a 26-year-old man—with illegally possessing a firearm. The department said investigators do not believe he was involved in the shootings.
Authorities said they have not provided a suspected motive for the parade shootings and said more arrests are expected. Investigators asked anyone with photos or video of the shooting or nearby areas to share them with authorities.
