Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday that he owes Indiana Gov. Mike Braun key lime pie and stone crabs after DeSantis lost a wager tied to Monday night’s college football national championship game.
DeSantis said Braun and he had made the bet around the Miami Hurricanes’ matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers, and that Indiana’s 27-21 win in Miami Gardens, Florida, triggered DeSantis’ obligation.
Speaking at a news conference on nursing education in Pinellas Park, Florida, DeSantis said he would send the key lime pie and stone crabs from Joe’s Stone Crab to Braun because of the outcome of the game.
DeSantis said Braun had been promised sugar cream pie, also known as Hoosier pie, along with pork tenderloin, if Miami had won.
DeSantis also joked that it might be faster to bring the food to Marco Island, a barrier island on Florida’s southwest coast that is popular with Midwestern vacationers and snowbirds in winter.
“You know, honestly, half of Indiana is in Marco Island this time of year,” DeSantis said. He added, “Can I just bring this stuff to Marco Island? It would be a lot easier for us.”
