The bipartisan food bet, with each governor pledging regional staples on the outcome of a game played on Florida soil, ended with DeSantis dispatching items from one of Miami’s most recognizable restaurants.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he will send key lime pie and stone crabs to Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, paying off a food wager he lost when the Indiana Hoosiers defeated the Miami Hurricanes 27-21 to claim the college football national championship Monday night in Miami Gardens.

DeSantis announced the settlement at a news conference on nursing education in Pinellas Park, Florida. He said the stone crabs would come from Joe’s Stone Crab, the famous Miami Beach eatery.

Had Miami won, DeSantis said, Braun had pledged to send sugar cream pie — also known as Hoosier pie — and pork tenderloin to Florida.

DeSantis joked that it might be quicker to drop the items at Marco Island, a barrier island on Florida’s southwest coast popular with Midwestern vacationers and snowbirds, rather than ship them north.

“You know, honestly, half of Indiana is in Marco Island this time of year,” DeSantis said. “Can I just bring this stuff to Marco Island? It would be a lot easier for us.”
