Separate road crashes in Pakistan killed at least 24 people and injured 45 others on Saturday, officials said.

The first crash happened in Sargodha, a city in eastern Punjab province, where a truck carrying passengers and cargo skidded off the road and fell into a canal amid heavy fog, according to police and rescue officials. In that crash, 14 people were killed and nine others were injured, officials said.

Hours later, another crash occurred on the Makran coastal highway in Balochistan province. A speeding passenger bus overturned, senior police official Aslam Bangulzai said.

Bangulzai said at least 10 people were killed and 36 others were injured in the Balochistan crash. He said the bus was traveling from Karachi to Jiwani, a town in Balochistan.

Traffic crashes are common in Pakistan, and they are often blamed on reckless driving, poor road conditions and weak enforcement of traffic laws.
