Marshon Lattimore, a cornerback for the Washington Commanders, was arrested Wednesday evening in Lakewood, Ohio, on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, Lakewood police said. Officers pulled over the vehicle Lattimore was riding in for expired license plates and other traffic violations. During the stop, Lattimore, 29, failed to disclose to the officer that a firearm was inside the vehicle when asked, according to police. He was briefly booked into jail and released without bond.

The arrest marks the second time in five years that Lattimore has faced weapons-related charges during a traffic stop in the Cleveland area, coming as the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback has struggled with injuries throughout his first full season with the Commanders.

Police said Lattimore was taken into custody at approximately 6:15 p.m. in Lakewood, a suburb west of Cleveland. Officers stopped the vehicle — in which Lattimore was a passenger — for expired license plates and other traffic violations, then asked whether a firearm was present. Lattimore did not disclose one, police said.

The Commanders said they were aware of the arrest and had notified league officials. “We have informed the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time,” a team spokesperson said.

Prior arrest

Wednesday’s arrest echoed a 2021 incident in which Lattimore, then with the New Orleans Saints, was arrested in Cleveland during a traffic stop on suspicion of possessing a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon and received a suspended sentence and a year of probation, according to court documents cited by the Associated Press.

On-field struggles

The arrest comes during a difficult stretch for Lattimore since he joined the Commanders in a November 2024 trade with the Saints. Washington general manager Adam Peters drew praise for the deal at the time: Lattimore was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and was regarded as a top-level cornerback who could fill a pressing need on the roster. He was healthy enough to appear in only two regular-season games in the 2024-25 season, however.

This season, his play was uneven before he went on injured reserve in November with a torn ACL in his knee, ending his participation in the second half of the schedule.

Lattimore grew up in Cleveland and attended Glenville High School before playing at Ohio State, where he was named first-team All-Big Ten. Phone messages left with his agents were not immediately returned, the Associated Press reported.
