The Trump administration is planning to leave a broad set of international organizations, with a White House list provided to The Associated Press naming 66 groups it says the U.S. will exit. The administration said many of the organizations it is leaving focus on areas it has criticized as catering to diversity and “woke” initiatives, according to the AP report.

The list is divided into “Non-U.N. organizations” and “United Nations organizations,” and it spans issue areas that include climate, labor, migration and related policy topics. The AP said the administration expects to depart nearly half of the organizations affiliated with the United Nations.

Among the non-U.N. organizations named on the White House list are groups that include 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact, the Colombo Plan Council, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, Education Cannot Wait, and several regional or sector-specific forums and research bodies. The non-U.N. portion also includes organizations such as the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, the Freedom Online Coalition, and the Global Counterterrorism Forum.

The list includes multiple climate- and environment-related organizations, including Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and International Union for Conservation of Nature. It also names international energy and renewables groups such as the International Energy Forum, the International Renewable Energy Agency, and the International Solar Alliance.

The non-U.N. section further includes organizations tied to migration, development, and governance topics, including the Global Forum on Migration and Development, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. The list also includes groups focused on rule-of-law and justice capacity such as the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law.

On the U.N. side, the White House list provided to AP names 24 U.N.-affiliated entities. Those include the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the U.N. Economic and Social Council and its regional commissions, and the International Law Commission.

The U.N. list also includes bodies and funds covering a range of priorities, including U.N. Human Settlements Programme, U.N. Oceans, U.N. Population Fund, and U.N. Water. It also names offices and commissions dealing with issues that include children and armed conflict, sexual violence in conflict, and violence against children.

The AP report said the administration categorized many of the targeted organizations as advancing initiatives it opposes. The specific names in the White House list outline the breadth of multilateral engagement the Trump administration is seeking to unwind, from U.N.-linked programs to separate international organizations.
