A shifting set of promises
When Trump Mobile launched its wireless service in June 2025, the T1 was the flagship offering — a device the company said would ship to customers by August or September of that year. The $500 price tag was presented as a bargain compared to Apple’s current iPhone lineup, which runs from roughly $800 to $1,200.
The domestic manufacturing claim dissolved first. Trump Mobile’s website now describes the T1 as having an “American-proud” design, with no further explanation — a step back from the original “proudly designed and built in the United States” language. Analysts, according to the Associated Press, said the retreat reflected recognition that the United States lacks the supply chain and logistics required to manufacture a smartphone for less than $1,000, the same structural hurdle cited in discussions about Apple moving iPhone production out of China and India.
The shipping timeline followed. Trump Mobile became more vague about delivery later in the summer, though its website still indicated customers who paid the $100 deposit would receive the T1 by the end of 2025. As of Tuesday, the site listed the targeted release as “later this year.”
The Trump Organization did not respond to AP inquiries about the delays or when the device is now expected to ship.
What a customer rep said
The Financial Times recently reported that a Trump Mobile customer representative said the phone would ship in late January 2026, attributing the delayed release to last year’s 43-day federal government shutdown.
That explanation was reported by the Financial Times and has not been independently confirmed by the Associated Press or by Trump Mobile in any public statement.
Analyst skepticism
Francisco Jeronimo, an analyst at International Data Corp., said the T1’s troubles were not a surprise.
“We have always been quite skeptical about this phone,” Jeronimo said. “They are probably finding that it is harder to build a phone than they thought it would be. Let’s see if this thing comes to life or not.”
Jeronimo raised the possibility that Trump Mobile’s strategy had effectively pivoted away from the T1 device altogether. “Maybe they changed their strategy and figured out they are better off just selling refurbished phones,” he said.
What Trump Mobile is selling now
While the T1 remains unavailable, Trump Mobile has been operating as a wireless carrier and reseller. The company charges $47.45 per month for wireless service — a price the company has tied to Donald Trump’s status as both the 45th and 47th president.
For customers who want a smartphone immediately, Trump Mobile is selling refurbished versions of older iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models at prices ranging from $370 to $630.
