Package-delivery services also face schedule changes. Standard FedEx and UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on New Year’s Day, though some critical services may be offered at certain locations, the Associated Press said.
Retail shopping remains an option at multiple major chains. Walmart is open on New Year’s Day, but may have modified hours, and the same general pattern applies to Target, Macy’s and Kohl’s, each of which is open but may operate on adjusted schedules.
Pharmacy and convenience retailers are also listed as open, but with possible modifications. The Associated Press said CVS and Walgreens are open on New Year’s Day but may have modified hours, and urged shoppers to check local-store details, including pharmacy hours.
Grocery store schedules are mixed across chains. Most national grocery store chains such as Albertsons, Whole Foods and Kroger are open on New Year’s Day but may have modified hours, while the Aldi grocery store chain is closed on the holiday.
The Associated Press also listed national chains that close for New Year’s Day, including Trader Joe’s and Costco.
In-store pharmacies tend to be closed for the holiday, the Associated Press said, adding that shoppers should confirm details with their local store.
