A Walt Disney World worker in Florida was injured Tuesday while trying to stop a large runaway prop boulder from rolling into seated spectators during the “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Associated Press reported.
The boulder, weighing 400 pounds (181 kilograms), moved off its track and began rolling toward audience members. The worker attempting to stop it was knocked to the ground after the boulder started moving.
Another worker stopped the boulder before it reached the spectators, according to the report. One of the show’s scheduled performances was canceled Tuesday after the accident, the Associated Press said.
On Wednesday, Disney modified scheduled showings to exclude the prop boulder, according to the report. The company said it was reviewing why the prop rolled off the track.
Disney did not disclose details of the injured worker’s injuries on Wednesday, citing privacy reasons, the report said.
In a statement, Disney said, “We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering,” and that “Safety is at the heart of what we do.” Disney added that the element of the show involving the prop would be modified as its safety team completes a review of what happened, the Associated Press reported.
The show is based on the Indiana Jones films and recreates an early scene from the first film, “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
